Yesterday was supposed to be Gage Wood Day in Reading and while he was fine, he was not the star of that particular game. Meanwhile, Florida weather in July strikes again. Let’s see how the kids did on the farm!
Omaha 12, Lehigh Valley 9
A relative offensive explosion saw the IronPigs have five players have multi hit games, two of which were three hit affairs. Bryan de la Cruz had three hits, two of which were doubles, Robert Moore had two hits where both were home runs. Nine runs on the day is usually
enough to take the win….but not today. Lehigh Valley pitching allowed twelve runs on ten hits and an unacceptable ten walks. Ryan Cusick was the worst of the bunch, allowing six runs in an inning and a third, walking six on his own accord. More of the same from this crew.
Reading 10, Altoona 6
It’s Pedro Leon’s world and we are simply living in it. Leon smashed two home runs as part of his three hits for the Fightin’ Phils yesterday to lead them to a win over the Curve. Alex Binelas and Caleb Ricketts backed him up with a home run each, all in support of Gage Wood on the mound. Wood only went four innings and allowed two runs in those innings, but he also struck out nine without allowing a walk. It was his first start since beginning the Futures Game last week for the National League.
Wilmington 10, Jersey Shore 6
It’s simply a case of wash, rinse, repeat for the Jersey Shore, who fell to 31-57 on the season. I know that a record doesn’t really mean a whole lot when it comes to minor league teams, but to be 26 games below .500 before the calendar turns to August? Man, that’s some bad baseball.
