Toronto got to Bailey Ober early on in this game. A single and a double led to a Vladimir Guerrero Jr. sac fly RBI for their first run. Bo Bichettte followed with a single, then Alejandro Kirk hit a 2-out single to make it a 2-0 game.
In the 2nd, George Springer hit a solo homer to left. Ober was able to settle in and was able to get to the 5th before Springer launched his second solo homer of the game, part of a 4 hit night for him, pushing the Blue Jays lead to 4-0.
It wasn’t until the 6th that the Twins
got their first runs, and they came courtesy of Luke Keaschall’s two-run homer to left-center. After a 2-out walk, old friend Louis Varland came in and got Royce Lewis to strike out to end that inning.
In the top of the 7th, the Twins went single-walk-single to load the bases. Brooks Lee hit a line out to right field, allowing Mickey Gasper to score, but Austin Martin was doubled off at 2nd base as he couldn’t get back in time.
After a failed 8th inning rally, Mickey Gasper led off the top of the 9th with a game-tying solo homer to right. That’s his first career homer, after snapping an 0-27 stretch earlier in the game. This was also after throwing out Ernie Clement trying to steal 2nd in the bottom of the 8th.
With the game tied, Austin Martin singled and stole 2nd, Ryan Jeffers grounded out, and then Brooks Lee was hit by a pitch. After Keaschall flew out, Matt Wallner blasted his 20th homer of the year, a 3-run shot, to put the Twins up 7-4.
Justin Topa came in for a 3-run save, and it was not without drama. With 2 outs, Springer singled, then Daulton Varsho doubled to score him. That brought Guerrero to the plate as the tying run. Thankfully, after a long battle, Topa got him to fly out harmlessly to end the game.
