The North Carolina Tar Heels are just moments away from facing off against Virginia in what is bound to be a game that could either be really interesting or really awful. The Cavaliers have looked really good
so far this season, and UNC has looked, well, the exact opposite. Anybody that didn’t watch the game against Cal would probably see that game as progress, but the truth is that the Golden Bears tried their hardest not to win that game. It is just that the Heels were a little bit better at losing than they were.
It’s worth noting that this is game is in Chapel Hill, and if the after-market ticket prices are any indication of what the atmosphere will be like, let’s just say it won’t be much of a home field advantage. It’s hard to even find words for what is happening anymore. Everyone within the football program is doubling down on on their investments, including Bill Belichick, but nobody seems to understand how bad this looks from the outside. There was a lot of money thrown around for the head coach, GM, roster, and other resources, and yet this is a team that honestly couldn’t beat most Power Four teams in the country. Perhaps Stanford would like to have a word, but at this rate it’s like that the Heels will lose that game as well. Let’s hope that I am wrong about that, though.
UNC’s best chance of winning this game just might be with their defense, which how dark that sounds I will leave up to you as the reader. While the offense has been a particular level of awful, the defense has shown teeth at various moments throughout the season. The problem, though, is that those teeth haven’t been convincing. Virginia has a respectable offense that doesn’t excel in one particular area, but they do know how to put points on the board. The best chance they have in winning this one is to keep the score from getting out of hand and give the offense a chance to do….something. Anything. We will see how well they can slow the Cavaliers down in a few moments.
As always, we will be back after the game with post-game analysis and takes. Until then, Go Heels!
