Bayern Munich legend Uli Hoeneß criticized Eintracht Frankfurt’s selling of its best players in recent years and — continuing a recent trend — Die Adler fires back.
“I believe that FC Bayern will also lose players in the future. If Michael Olise wants to go to Real Madrid, there will be chances for that. The market has changed. Other countries and clubs have different resources. Maintaining the Bundesliga’s competitiveness in an international context – that is our core issue,” Eintracht Frankfurt
sporting director Markus Krösche told AbsolutFussball.de’s Christopher Michel on ZDF sportstudio (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
In recent years, Eintracht Frankfurt has sold the following players for €10 million or more:
- Randal Kolo Muani: €95 million
- Hugo Ekitiké: €95 million
- Omar Marmoush: €75 million
- Luka Jović: €63 million
- Sébastien Haller: €50 million
- Willian Pacho: €40 million
- Jesper Lindstrøm: €30 million
- André Silva: €23 million
- Tuta: €15 million
- Filip Kostić: €14 million
- Djibril Sow: €10 million
That is a substantial amount of revenue generate by player sales, but it did not translate to on-field success this season for Eintracht Frankfurt (at least not yet — there is still a chance that Eintracht could qualify for the Champions League).
As for Bayern Munich, it could happen that the Bavarians start to lose players, but we have not seen it happen yet. Between now and then, the Bavarians will undoubtedly be strategizing for their future. Will they will be able find a way to avoid what Eintracht Frankfurt has predicted?
