Free agent projections are out, and so it is that time again — time for the annual “should the Rangers sign This Player” polls.
Today, we are looking at starting pitcher Chris Bassitt.
Bassitt is a righthander
who was a late bloomer, not really establishing himself until the 2019 season. He just finished up a three year deal with the Blue Jays, for whom he put up a 3.89 ERA and 4.13 FIP in 541 innings over 95 starts and one relief appearance. He’s a ground ball generating innings eater.
Over at Fangraphs, Ben Clemens projects Bassitt at one year, $17 million as the #35 free agent in their top 50, while the median crowdsource has Bassitt at 2 years, $36 million. At ESPN, Kiley McDaniel has Bassitt at #23, and projects him at 2 years, $34 million. Keith Law ranks Bassitt at #29 on his list, and says one year at $21 million “seems about right.”
We will use the McDaniel projection.
Should the Rangers sign Chris Bassitt to a two year, $34 million deal?
