It’s always tricky to summarise games like Saturday’s. On one hand we showed character to come back and get something from the game, while on the other, after going 1-0 up it’s frustrating that we even found ourselves in a losing position.
This is a team still very much evolving, and performances like this will not be uncommon, I’m sure. As frustrating as that is, it’s also just the situation we’re in as a team right now.
Here’s how the fans reacted to another opinion-splitting afternoon…
New signings
Optimism among
the Loyal Royals was given a needed boost in the run-up to Saturday’s Louisiana Day at the SCL, with Haydon Roberts and Ryan Nyambe signing.
And it wasn’t long until we got to see the two of them making a real impact in the blue and white hoops, with the former bagging his first goal and the latter providing an assist for Marriott’s equaliser.
First impressions are always important, and they made decent ones it seems…
Jack Marriott
While Roberts and Nyambe were making their first impressions, this man proved his importance to the team yet again.
It was a signing that raised a few eyebrows and had some debating his quality, but there’s nobody doubting his ability now. He’s a natural goalscorer, and they are priceless at this level.
Marriott again, ole, ole…
An opinion-splitting performance
I think the general feeling at the moment, for me anyway, is that we are a team in transition. Yes, I detest that phrase as much as you do, but that is our reality right now.
We will have good times and not so good times, but it will take time to find a real level of consistency. Again, Saturday’s performance was one that left fans wanting more, while also praising some clear positives…
Conclusion
There are green shoots, that’s for sure, but it will take time for those to turn into real, solid, consistent foundations.
I for one am a lot more confident with Leam Richardson in charge. The football hasn’t been glamorous by any stretch, and results haven’t been perfect, but I’m starting to see a direction – and it’s a positive one.
Next up, Exeter City at home on Tuesday. URZ!
