Newcastle United might have found a new suitor for Anthony Gordon in an already-exploding summer transfer saga.
In this case, coming out of left field, it’s FC Barcelona who are seemingly exploring a potential move for the winger ahead of the summer transfer window.
Gordon has already attracted attention from multiple top clubs—namely Bayern Munich and Arsenal—after a productive two-thirds of the season, and Barcelona have now emerged as another serious contender to land the England international.
Matteo Moretto reported on Monday that Gordon is firmly on the club’s radar.
“Anthony Gordon is the Premier League winger that Barça likes a lot,” Moretto reported. “The cost of the operation is very high.”
Barcelona are assessing options on the left wing, particularly if they fail to reach an agreement with Marcus Rashford, and it looks like Gordon is the man they have identified as their No. 1 option if they launch a bid for anyone coming from the Premier League.
The financial aspect of the operation, however, might be the thing breaking any potential deal. Newcastle are obviously going to squeeze the last penny in any sale, and they are expected to demand a significant fee, quoted around £75m to £80m, which could make a transfer quite hard for the Catalans.
As things stand, it sounds like Bayern is the only club to have submitted a bid for Gordon, albeit still way short of Newcastle’s valuation of the player.
