The defense isn’t the only side of the ball getting a makeover for the Chicago Bears. There will be a new-look receiving corps making their debut in the near future due in large part to DJ Moore’s recent departure. Additionally the Bears will be looking to add more speed at each skilled group.
Their need for speed has led to a reunion for Ben Johnson. Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network the Bears are signing veteran receiver and return specialist Kalif Raymond. The terms of the deal are for one year and $5.1M.
Kalif (31) has been in the league since 2016 when signing as an undrafted free agent with the Denver Broncos. As mentioned earlier he played for Ben Johnson in Detroit from 2021 until 2024. While with Ben Johnson in Detroit, he was utilized quite heavily as a slot receiver, and averaged nearly 13 y/c (12.93) in such a role. Another interesting stat is the career passer rating when featured as a target in Ben Johnson’s offense has been over 100.0 (116.55) with an impressive 137.5 in 2024.
Where Kalif has made his money has been as a return specialist. The 2-time All Pro returner will most certainly feature a dynamic presence on special teams, and depending on what happens with Devin Duverney, could give Chicago a pair of the better returners in the league. Don’t be surprised if more explosive weaponry is added to the Bears’ receiving corps in the coming days and weeks.
