There are good news and bad news regarding our striker situation. Unfortunately, the news are not equal in magnitude, as it’s not the good news that’s winning.
Then again, maybe Emmanuel Emegha is about to go on a generational run, score seventeen million goals, and become an instant legend and Ballon d’Or winner. Don’t let us hold you back, kid!
But yeah, Emegha is finally in the squad as we travel to Anfield for tomorrow night’s League Cup showdown against Liverpool. The 23-year-old has been dealing
with various injuries for the past year, including for much of last season at RC Strasbourg, but hopefully he’s now good to go and ready to show us what he can do.
“Emmanuel is in the squad. [He] has special qualities. He has to feel fully fit. He’s been training for the last couple of weeks, 10 days, in a good way that allows him to build a strong base for his fitness and now gradually we want to see him and maybe tomorrow he has the chance to play.”
And he’s going to have big shoes to fill (or help fill), with João Pedro set to miss “a few weeks” with a thigh injury. So basically he’s out for at least a month, until after the next international break in a couple weeks. That’s not exactly ideal considering that we’ve scored a grand total of zero goals in the two games that he has missed so far this season.
“He has an injury on his thigh and he is going to be out for a few weeks. Let’s see how many. We don’t want to predict on that, but he’s not ready for the next games. […] He is a key player. We will miss him, but we will have to be ready to deal with the injury and to be competitive and to try to win games with the players that we have available.”
