Lights, cameras… rumors!
Drew McIntyre: Movie Star
We have another sign that Drew McIntyre likely won’t be in WWE for at least the next month or so.
This one came from PWInsider‘s Mike Johnson, who passed along that “McIntyre has been pulled from FanaticsFest” in New York City July 16-19 because he’ll be busy filming The Last Druid. Not long after Drew was announced for that Roman Empire-set action-thriller starring Russell Crowe, a rumor hit that he would miss SummerSlam.
Not only does the FanaticsFest news support that rumor
— if he’s not around the third weekend in July, that doesn’t leave Triple H and team much time to set something up for McIntyre at the Biggest Party of the Summer Aug. 1-2 in Minneapolis, but Johnson says the former WWE champ has already landed a role in “a third feature film role later this year”.
Is the 41-year-old Scotsman following in John Cena and Dave Bautista’s footsteps a little quicker than WWE and wrestling fans thought he would? Are their WWE stories or accomplishments that could convince him to be around more? We may be talking about that more seriously if McIntyre keeps lining up movie gigs.
More rumors!
- TNA seems to be seriously considering adding “some kind of midcard women’s championship”, according to Fightful Select. At one point, a tournament had been planned for July to crown the first champ. Fightful’s not sure if Tommy Dreamer’s exit and other changes at TNA has impacted (pun intended) those plans.
- On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said one reason last night’s Dynamite had eight matches announced in advance was “because Tony Khan is a soccer guy. He is well aware of the World Cup and he’s trying to put on a hell of a show going against World Cup soccer.” The other reason was to build to Sunday’s Forbidden Door PPV.
- WWE and Fanatics listed a “match-used steel chair” from Women’s WarGames match at Survivor Series 2022, then deleted the listing when fans pointed out that no chairs were used in that match. That per WrestlePurists, among others.
- On Tuesday, Deonna Purrazzo appeared to confirm reports she was injured at the recent Ring of Honor taping when she posted a picture of herself on crutches and with her right leg in a knee-high walking boot.
- WWE recently filed a trademark on the name “Milos Jovik”, and PWInsider says it will be used by former Serbian mixed martial artist Dusan Novakovic.
