Your Minnesota Vikings went on the road to defeat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 23-16. 3-0 never felt so unsatisfying, so if you’re not done complaining yet, let’s talk about who was terrible this past Sunday.
Kyler Murray
Murray being on this list might be a little harsh, but it’s the NFL. Murray’s start to his Minnesota tenure has not been ideal. The Buccaneers should’ve been put away long before they were and it’s the offensive incompetence in Minnesota that kept them in the game. I’m not ready to give
up on Murray after one full game as the starter, but . his start to his Minnesota tenure hasn’t exactly inspired confidence.
Vikings Offensive Line
The Vikings’ OL did not do Kyler any favors on Sunday. The offensive tackles might have been the weakest spots on the line. Christian Darrisaw allowed a sack and committed a holding penalty. O’Neill couldn’t block anyone in the run game. Tampa’s defensive line is good, but they’re not that good. Keith Carter’s squad is going to have to regroup after a rough performance.
Josh Metellus
The Vikings allowed quite a few chunk plays on Sunday and it seemed Metellus was at the center of it. He seems to be struggling to find his place on this defense. Metellus has been a weak spot on the defense all three weeks so far.
Theo Jackson
At some point, potential has to turn into production. Jackson has been given a larger role in the defense this season and continues to be the player opposing offenses seem most interested in testing. Missed tackles, bad angles, and almost zero impact plays from Jackson.
Nolan Teasley
I am not the biggest J.J. McCarthy fan in the world, but he has shown some promise. He wasn’t completely awful, and he’s still very young. The Vikings have no clear long-term direction at quarterback right now, and it seems silly to pass up any potential solution for a fifth-round draft pick. Teasley’s first major move feels like a gamble the Vikings didn’t need to make. There are too many quarterback injuries around the league and too much uncertainty within the organization to move on from a former first-round pick for a Day 3 selection. From where I sit, the Vikings should have gotten more in return or held onto McCarthy a little longer.
