Hansi Flick has clarified the situation regards the club’s captains ahead of Barcelona’s Gamper Trophy game with Al Ahly on Wednesday.
There’s been speculation that Raphinha will be the club captain for the 2026-27 season but Flick says that’s not the complete story.
While the Brazilian star will wear the armband for Gamper game, and address the fans, the players will still hold a vote to decide the captains before the start of the season.
“I decided the captain, until we vote, because our team is not
finished yet. I think we may also have some more players, or some players will leave. When it’s done, we will do the vote. Until this happens, Rapha is the captain with Eric and Pedri,” he told the club’s media.
“Rapha will do [the speech], I know that Frenkie is the third captain because Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Ronald Araujo are out but Frenkie at the moment is not available because he is injured.
“But my relationship with Frenkie is very good. He is a measured and very professional player and our relationship is top.
“I always speak with him about things that happen around the team. We speak a lot. For me, he is an important player.”
Barcelona are set to add Rodri and Joao Cancelo to the squad imminently, with the club still aiming to bring in a striker before the transfer window xloses.
