It’s always a question when the draft comes along. Without specific knowledge of how the first round of the draft will actually go, fans discuss the best way for a team to us its first-round draft pick(s). It’s a strategy question that can involve many factors. The roster. Where the first-round pick falls in the pecking order. How many picks the team has to use. Etc.
The Dallas Cowboys come into the first round armed with two picks at number 12 and 20. That makes this draft and unusual one for the team
as it’s pretty rare to have two; the Cowboys have theirs courtesy of the Micah Parsons trade.
We asked you to weigh in on three broad strategies the Cowboys could take on draft night.
- Trade up to make sure they get a top defensive player for their defense which was abysmal in 2025.
- Stay put and use those two picks to get two players who could readily impact the roster in 2026.
- Trade back and pick up some desperately needed picks on Day 2 of the draft.
It wasn’t a runaway victory, but the idea of trading down and picking up more picks was the clear winner in our poll with 47%. Staying put was a decent second with 34%. The one thing a large majority of fans don’t want to do is to trade up for a top defender.
Which option did you take and how do you feel about these results?
