The Pittsburgh Steelers are likely to get safety DeShon Elliott back in the lineup on Sunday when they face the New Orleans Saints in Paris. Elliott has been on IR since the beginning of the season with a knee injury.
While it appears he’ll be back on Sunday, the plan to ease safety DeShon Elliott back into the lineup as he continues his recovery from injury, according to Steelers insider Nick Farabaugh
.Elliott is expected to play approximately 50% of the defensive snaps as Pittsburgh manages his
workload while he works his way back to full strength. His return should provide a boost to the Steelers’ secondary as the defense looks to maintain consistency.
The Steelers also appear committed to giving rookie safety Robert Spears-Jennings an opportunity to remain involved in the rotation. The seventh-round pick has reportedly impressed the coaching staff, with Fillipponi noting that the team has significant confidence in the young defensive back.
With Elliott gradually returning and Spears-Jennings earning opportunities, Pittsburgh will look to balance getting its veteran safety back into rhythm while continuing to develop its rookie talent.
