In what is unironically the biggest Sixers news of the 2026 NBA trade deadline day, Philadelphia signed Patrick Baldwin Jr. to a 10-day contract.
Baldwin has been one of the more prominent names in the G League this season. A late first-round pick in the 2022
NBA Draft, he was selected 28th overall by the Golden State Warriors. Since then, he’s had brief NBA stints with the Washington Wizards and LA Clippers, spending the majority of his career developing in the G League.
Most recently, Baldwin played for the San Diego Clippers, appearing in 17 games and averaging 21.6 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.8 blocks per game. He did so efficiently, shooting 51.1 percent from the field and 33.7 percent from three on 5.4 attempts per contest. The former first-round pick remains an intriguing talent, as wings with his size — 6-foot-10 with a near 7-foot-2 wingspan — aren’t easy to find. He’s also still just 23 years old.
While Baldwin Jr. himself offers some level of intrigue, the primary motivation behind this move appears to be roster-related. As things stand, the Sixers currently have only 12 full-time players. Dominick Barlow and Jabari Walker are expected to fill the final two roster spots, but both still need to be converted. By signing Baldwin and extending Charles Bassey on an additional 10-day contract, the Sixers reach the league-mandated minimum number of players, allowing Barlow and Walker to continue playing while on their two-way deals. In essence, these moves buy time for the team and players to negotiate and finalize longer-term agreements.
It remains to be seen whether Baldwin will see meaningful minutes with the Sixers or spend most of his time in the G League with the Delaware Blue Coats. For now, this signing looks best categorized as a low-risk flier and a flexibility move.
