The Dallas Cowboys 34-31 loss to the Baltimore Ravens Sunday afternoon in Brazil is a game chocked full of “what could’ve been”. The Cowboys had the game within their grasp, but unfortunately shot themselves in the foot in the end allowing the Ravens to steal the victory with a last second field goal. C’est la vie.
Last week’s loss in the past and there’s nothing we can do to change the outcome. It’s now time to shift the focus to Dallas’ next opponent, Houston Texans. Before we do that though, let’s
was take one last look back at some of the good, bad, and ugly things that occurred that led to their unfortunate loss to Baltimore.
THE GOOD – RB Javonte Williams
Who would’ve guessed Javonte Williams would out rush Derrick Henry? That’s exactly what he did though. He averaged 5.2 yards per carry on 19 carries and rushed for a total of 98 yards and a touchdown Sunday afternoon against Baltimore.
After rushing for just 30 and 41 yards in his first two games this year, this was a much-needed addition the Cowboys offense, especially against a stout Ravens run defense. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough to secure the “W”, but it was a positive sign Dallas’ offense is finally started a fire on all cylinders.
THE BAD – HC Brian Schottenheimer
There are several things that occurred throughout the ballgame Sunday afternoon that ultimately led to the Cowboys loss, but quite a bit of it can be laid at the feet of Brian Schottenheimer. From his questionable play-calling in the red zone to his in-game decision-making, he had a negative impact on the outcome of the game.
The choice to kick the ball out of the endzone and not run any time off the clock really came back to hurt the team. Schottenheimer has done plenty of good things with the Cowboys, but this game was not his best moment.
THE UGLY – Injuries
The Cowboys continued to take a hit at the safety position and cornerback. Jalen Thompson now joins Malik Hooker and P.J. Locke as latest injured safety, leaving Dallas with a couple of backups starting for them for the foreseeable future. Locke is probably out until at least after Week 7 after being placed on injured reserve and there is no timetable for Thompson or Hooker to return to action. Both could be out for at least a couple more weeks.
Shavon Revel had to leave the Ravens game, joining fellow cornerback Cobie Durant on the injured list. This led to the Cowboys playing with backups deep off their bench, helping the late-game collapse. The Cowboys secondary has been decimated by injury.
