The January transfer window has closed and while it was a quiet month for Borussia Dortmund, there was plenty of other business in the Bundesliga and around Europe. It’s like watching everyone else open
presents on Christmas Day and finding out your gift is the company of loved ones.
BVB News
- Sebastian Kehl confirmed that BVB would not be making any late moves yesterday afternoon. Obviously it’s not news that Dortmund didn’t make any late signings, but it does confirm that this was a choice made internally, rather than a failure to get deals done.
- I’m sure everyone will have lots of thoughts about the decision to roll with the smallest squad in the league, despite a number of injuries. Ruhr Nachrichten’s Kevin Pinnow landed the first punch, describing the club’s transfer strategy as “negligent”.
- The good news is that Filippo Mane’s injury doesn’t appear too be too serious. Sebastien Kehl confirmed Mane will only be out for a few weeks, when talking about the potential for any late moves.
- There was a late (and surprise) move by Fenerbahçe to try to sign Serhou Guirassy, though clearly that didn’t come to fruition.
Bundesliga News
- The rest of the Bundesliga was in motion yesterday, getting some last-minute deals done. Here is a roundup of the biggest deals in the Bundesliga on transfer deadline day.
- Mainz were especially busy, making multiple moves including bringing Sheraldo Becker back to the Bundesliga on a loan from Osasuna.
- Bayern Munich have suffered a bit of a wobble recently, and with a big game against in-form Hoffenheim at the weekend, Harry Kane’s absence from training due to an illness is a cause for some concern.
