What is the story about?
Another
week, another dominant road performance by Texas A&M. This time, it was a 38-17 dismantling of Missouri in Columbia to get the Aggies to 9-0. Here are some of the numbers that tell the tale.
Salient Stats
- 3: Second-half penalties for Texas A&M. The Aggies hindered themselves a bit in the first half with five penalties in the second quarter alone, but mostly locked things down in the second half. And the results followed accordingly.
- 4: SEC games in which A&M has held the opponent to 17 or fewer points. This defense is not perfect, but more often than not, they are forcing conference opponents to have a below average day offensively. Do that while your offense is averaging 35.5 points yourself in conference play, and you have a recipe for winning a lot of games.
- 7: Tackles for loss for A&M. The Ags have now had at least six tackles for loss in every conference game. That’s a good way to stop an offense.
- 31.8%: Completion percentage for Mizzou QB Matt Zollers. We heard a lot of folks talking up the true freshman’s potential after he went 14-f0r-23 for 138 yards and a TD in 1.5 quarters of action against Vandy, but against A&M, he looked every bit like the inexperienced QB he was.
- 38.5%: Mizzou’s third down completion percentage. That’s higher than what A&M has given up most of the season, but the Tigers came in as one of the best third down teams in the country, converting 50% of them. So that 38.5% number is a good one, and getting off the field that many times certainly helped the Ags take control of this game.
- 69%: Marcel Reed’s completion percentage. That now makes four of six SEC games in which Marcel has completed 68% or more of his passes. When he’s doing that, this offense is virtually impossible to stop for four quarters.
- 314: Second-half yards for the A&M offense. Make no mistake, that Mizzou defense is a good unit. Statistically, it was the best A&M has faced this season coming into this game, and at halftime, that’s exactly how it looked. But just as they’ve done so many times this season, the Aggies came out in the second half and just mauled people.
