Jacob deGrom has been named the winner of the 2025 Players Choice Comeback Player of the Year Award for the American League, it was announced today.
deGrom missed the bulk of the 2023 and 2024 seasons due
to Tommy John surgery, and there were questions as to how heavy a load he would be able to carry in 2025. deGrom ended up making 30 starts and throwing 172.2 innings, both of which were his highest marks since 2019. He had a 2.97 ERA, good for 6th in the American League, and a 3.65 FIP.
deGrom, 37, just finished the third year of a 5 year, $185 million contract he signed prior to the 2023 season with the Rangers. Prior to that, he had spent his entire career with the New York Mets, for whom he won the Rookie of the Year Award in 2014 and back-to-back Cy Young Awards in 2018-19.
