With last week’s trade of star wideout Jaylen Waddle by our Miami Dolphins, the rumors began to fly that running back De’Von Achane would be the player next in line to be traded. The Dolphins front office then made it clear that Achane was not on the trading block and that they had no plans or desire to move him before this year’s draft or even the season. With that, I asked the following question:
Do you think the Miami Dolphins are being sincere in signaling that De’Von Achane is not a tradable
piece of the roster, or do you believe that they are just attempting to drive up his trade value? Beyond that, do you believe that the team should keep Achane and give him an extension beyond the 2026 season, or do you believe that they should attempt to trade him for more picks in the 2026 NFL draft, knowing that they need multiple players to rebuild this team from the ground up?
Below are some of your thoughts and answers-
MiamiItaliano is correct. I suspect that no player is ever untouchable unless you find one of those rare top-level franchise quarterbacks.
Nobody is untouchable from last season’s roster. If some GM went insane and offered 2 first rounders, Sully would trade him.
USMCFinzFreak seems to be a big Kenny Rogers fan.
For the right circumstances, everyone is tradeable. If you are bluffing, never show your cards to those at the table until you are sure you can’t win. Like Kenny Rogers once sang:
You gotta know when to hold em.
know when to fold em,
know when to walk away,
and know when to run.
You never count your draft pics
when you’re sitting at the table,
There’ll be time enough for countin’
when the dealing’s done.
davidson11 says that Achane doesn’t make it to opening day as a Dolphin.
No way Achane is on the day one roster. They either trade him pre-draft, right after the draft, or when a contending team’s RB1 tears his ACL in the pre-season.
Green Bay never had a RB remotely close to Achane. He’s a Mike McDaniel guy.
TuaLuve thinks the team should make Achane available and then pull the trigger only when the offer is too good to pass up.
Ofc not!!!!!! If we are trading all of our young assets away for future draft capital and essentially throwing away this season, why the hell would Achane be untouchable??? He an elite talent but if a team offers you a package that is too good to pass up, you have to take it. Especially considering have replaceable quality RB’s can be via the draft PLUS we will have to pay him in a year or two. I think the right approach would be to make him available, but only pull the trigger for an amazing offer (like the one we got for Waddle). This team sucks again, but I’m a fin for life🐬
Phoenix6 says give the man his new deal, well, if they are actually going to keep him.
Do you think the team is being sincere in signaling that De’Von Achane is not a tradable piece of the roster?
Yes. He’s one of five or so of the core players the team wants to keep.
Do you believe that they are just attempting to drive up his trade value?
Nah. His value is subjective. What the Dolphins 🐬 value vs what another team does. I see it as a Hershel Walker/Jeremy Tunsil type value price.
Do you believe that the team should keep Achane?
(see 1sr question) Absolutely they should keep him. Besides, no team is going to give up what the Dolphins 🐬 want in return for him.
Should the Dolphins 🐬 give him an extension beyond the 2026 season?
Well, if they’re going to keep him, of course they should. A new contract isn’t happening until after June 1st. Just so you know.
Do you believe that they should attempt to trade him for more picks in the 2026 NFL draft?
Attempt? They don’t need to as they’ve been getting calls for him. Sully isn’t going to just give him away. He’s not Grier.
PA phinphan believes the front office was sincere when they said they want to keep Achane, but only if an offer too good to not pass up comes in.
Do you think the Miami Dolphins are being sincere in signaling that De’Von Achane is not a tradable piece of the roster?
I believe they are being as sincere as they can be. But that changes when someone’s offer is more than expected. See Waddle-Broncos trade.
Do you believe that they are just attempting to drive up his trade value?
No but could be I guess 🤷
Beyond that, do you believe that the team should keep Achane and give him an extension beyond the 2026 season, or do you believe that they should attempt to trade him for more picks in the 2026 NFL draft, knowing that they need multiple players to rebuild this team from the ground up?
I would love to see the Dolphins extend him for 4 or 5 years. Then when he has a year left on the extension, trade him for picks. I realize this only works if he continues to produce.
Dolfanjoe points out that Sullivan comes from a run-heavy team and will likely continue with that mindset in Miami, but that Achane is no safer than any other player on the roster if the compensation is right.
GB ran the ball. Sullivan lucked into a bad team with a very good running back. Not pro typical size he probably wants. But a very good runner and receiver non the less. Running backs have a shorter life span than most. Some make it quite a few years though. Achane paired with a good bruising back would most likely extend his career. But that is not really the question. Could he be traded ? No one is safe on this team ! If the right offer is given he is gone. Money has nothing to do with it. A contract extension will probably lower his cap this year and we will have no problem affording him down the line. So all this comes down to is what is offered. 2nd this year and a first next year ? Yea he is gone ! So as we all know the answer is compensation. And this team can extend him and still trade him before the trade deadline and ask a team pushing for the SB for even more ! We shall see what happens during the draft. Then many weeks into the season !
Finsane1 says that De’Von is indeed untouchable.
MOST of the Defense can’t touch Achane. He is UNTOUCHABLE like Elliot Ness! FinsUp!!!
JUK says, pay the man!
Extend him and get contracts based on what people got years ago when the cap was 30% lower out of your head. He isn’t signing for 15m a year and nor should he. The tag for running backs will be 20m once Taylor, Gibbs and Bijan sign extensions
scrwal says 20 million per year is a bit much given the year we are about to go into.
I think the value to the Dolphins currently exceeds what other teams want to pay so he is staying. Having said that if an offer is made matching the teams valuation then he would be traded.
I wouldn’t extend him for $20m per year especially in a transition year.
610WIOD says yes or maybe no.
Yep. Right up to the moment they receive the proverbial “offer they can’t refuse”.
CluelessNFLfan says no one is safe.
No player is safe for the right price. Dolphins are just letting the league know the price for Achane is very high
It seems like there is somewhat of a consensus that we should trade him if someone offers a solid value or above value, with many also on the side of the team handing him an extension. I personally hope they hold on to him so there is at least a little possibility of excitement this coming season. As with all of these posts, we appreciate your participation in both answering the question of the day and in the overall discussion that drives this site.
