In what has been a big weekend for Kentucky athletics, the transfer portal just keeps rolling. Head coach Will Stein has picked up a commitment from former Marshall QB JacQai Long, he announced Sunday
via Twitter.
Long, a freshman quarterback from West Virginia, will arrive in Lexington with three years of eligibility remaining. He is the Wildcats’ second addition to the QB room during the transfer portal cycle, joining Notre Dame’s Kenny Minchey.
The 6-2, 205-pound Long spent two seasons with the Thundering Herd. He spent the 2024 season as a redshirt and saw limited playing time this past season. He wrapped up the 2025 season appearing in five games and totaling 31 passing yards.
Long was originally a 3-star recruit ranked 1,880th nationally, 103rd among quarterbacks, and sixth in the state of West Virginia by 247 Sports Composite. He held scholarship offers from Appalachian State, Memphis, UMass, Toledo, Miami (OH), East Carolina, Arkansas State, and Kent State, among others. He’s now set to compete for the No. 2 QB spot next season behind Minchey.
Will Stein arrived in Lexington this past weekend, saw a men’s basketball win, and got to work in the transfer portal. The Wildcats gained a huge commitment from RB CJ Baxter on Sunday. Stein is putting together a solid offense ahead of the 2026 season.
