For all the talent already in the squad, it still feels like Bayern Munich enters the summer with several major questions to answer. The club has enough quality to compete for Bundesliga titles every season, but after another Champions League campaign that exposed some weaknesses, where should the biggest investment really go?
Center-back might be the most obvious answer. Injuries, inconsistency, and lack of continuity have hurt Bayern for multiple seasons now. Dayot Upamecano can look world-class
one week and shaky the next. Kim Min-jae has not lived up to expectations. Jonathan Tah might need more rest over the course of a season than he got during this campaign. With questions surrounding depth and long-term reliability, adding another elite-level central defender could stabilize the entire squad. Bayern at their best are built on defensive security first.
Others will argue the attack needs attention. Harry Kane remains one of the best strikers in the world, while Michael Olise has added creativity and flair, but Bayern still lack consistent explosiveness on the wings at times. Too often the attack can become predictable against top European sides. Adding another elite attacker with pace, creativity, and one-on-one ability could take pressure off Kane and make Bayern far more dangerous in transition.
Then there is central midfield — perhaps the position that quietly impacts everything the most. Bayern have talent there, but the balance still does not always look right. The club could use a midfielder who can dictate tempo, protect the defense, and progress the ball under pressure. Against elite European competition, Bayern Munich sometimes loses control of matches too easily. A dominant midfield presence could change that immediately.
And finally, right-back remains an underrated concern. Injuries and inconsistency have made the position feel unsettled for a while now. Modern Bayern Munich football depends heavily on fullbacks contributing both defensively and offensively. A reliable two-way option on the right side could completely reshape the team’s structure.
So what do you think? If Bayern Munich can only make one major investment this summer, which position should top the priority list?
