One of the strengths of the US Men’s National Team has been bringing in highly regarded dual nationals. Folarin Balogun, Sergino Dest, and Antonee Robinson have all chosen the United States over other national team options for their international careers. A rising star has gained a lot of attention this season as Noahkai Banks has risen to become a star for Augsburg. USMNT manager Mauricio Pochettino has noticed and is reportedly recruiting the center back to play for the Stars and Stripes as reported by
Florian Plettenberg.
As he notes, Banks has not been contacted by the German federation but seems to prefer playing for the European nation over his birth nation. Plettenberg noted that, “because he has not made a decision yet, it is possible that he will not play any international matches in March.”
With just one friendly window before World Cup camp begins this summer, the timing of his decision is obviously important. As it stands, it may be that his decision isn’t made in time for him to play in the tournament this summer. Still, the USA has been effective at recruiting players and surprising decisions aren’t unheard of from dual-nationals.
