BlueCo have activated the multi-club safety valve a couple more times here in the final few hours of the transfer window, sending a pair of 21-year-olds, Deivid Washington and Dário Essugo from Chelsea to RC Strasbourg. Washington’s move is of the permanent transfer variety, reportedly “worth” around €8m, while Essugo joins on loan for the season. He’s the third of our allowed three loanees at RCSA, after Genesis Antwi and Filip Jörgensen.
Essugo’s departure is a little bit surprising given that we
don’t appear to be bringing in anyone to fill the spot that’s being vacated by Enzo Fernández, but assuming we can stay healthy, we should have at least five options for the two midfield spots (Caicedo, Lavia, Barco, Henderson, James), so in theory we should be fine. And Essugo needs regular playing time after spending much of last year, his first season in Blue, out injured, making just five appearances.
Injuries have played a big role in limiting Washington’s career progression as well. The young striker spent the 2025 season back with his boyhood club, Santos, but scored just once in 20 appearances.
Good luck, Deivid & Dário!
