According to a report from Sport Bild journalists Julian Agardi and Tobi Altschäffl (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), leaked emails revealed how Bayern Munich alienated VfB Stuttgart with what was considered to be a low offer for Nick Woltemade:
Excerpts from leaked emails sent back by Stuttgart to Bayern after the offers for Nick Woltemade, obtained by @SPORTBILD
11 July (after the first €40m + €5m bid):
“Thank you for your proposal. The deviation from our expectations is so fundamental that we must describe
the chances of an agreement as absolutely unrealistic. It goes on to say that the sporting loss is far more serious than the added value of the offer. For this reason, we would like to end the talks. We ask you to refrain from further attempts to sign him.”
16 July (after the second €50m + €5m bid)
“Our approach to refusing face-to-face talks is based on the fact that we are too far apart. Your latest offer doesn’t change that. We ask you to respect our position on that.”
As it stands, anything can still happen before the transfer deadline, but — if true — these leaks do show that VfB Stuttgart is not going to budge from its desired price, which could be anywhere from €65 million to €75 million.
It seems as if Bayern Munich underestimated two things:
- VfB Stuttgart’s resolve in wanting to keep Woltemade.
- Just how much it would take to actually get the attacker.
Bayern Munich kicked off its season with a win over VfB Stuttgart in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup, which gave fans some insight on where things stand ahead of the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, and the Champions League.
