Harry Kane has long been known for his prowess as a forward — and even for his preternatural ability to pass the ball as a striker. However, Bayern Munich legend Uli Hoeneß argued in a media exchange that it was only in Germany that Kane’s playmaking abilities truly blossomed.
Harry Kane was known as a goal scorer, but not yet so much as a playmaker [before his move to Bayern]. Or is that a misconception?
“He learned that here. He was always in the box,” Hoeneß said in remarks captured by kicker journalists

What about Kane’s history in different positions — No. 6 and No. 10 — as a youth player? Hoeneß was unmoved by the argument.
“Okay, you’re the experts on that,” Hoeneß retorted. “But I can only say one thing: He discovered that running element to his game under Vincent Kompany. He’s in his own box for every set piece. And the passes! He plays 70-meter passes to [Michael] Olise from a standing position, it’s incredible.
“And above all, he’s such a great character. Such a role model for our young players; they look up to him in the dressing room. We can only be proud to have him in our team.”
That last paragraph is certainly beyond doubt. And Kane has elevated not only his own play, but brought out the best qualities of those around him in his time at Bayern. As for the rest? It calls to mind a Kingsley Coman interview comparing Kane with Robert Lewandowski: “I would say Harry makes the winger better. He won’t just be there to finish, but he will put you in front of the goal. He will find the right pass. And sometimes I feel like he enjoys [that] as much as going up and finishing to score.”
Kane’s role may have changed in some ways over the years, but that team-first character? That’s in his DNA.
