FC Barcelona Juvenil A, Barcelona’s team for players under 19 years old, got back from a costly mistake to salvage a draw against Paris Saint-Germain’s U19 team in the UEFA Youth League.
Ahead of a clash between both team’s main squads, Barcelona’s youngsters played a good game, but it almost went all wrong due to a costly error. Pedro Rodríguez (no relation to the legendary Pedro, who retired recently) scored the equalizer for Barça from the spot.
During the match, goalkeeper Arthur Vignaud had his hands full for PSG as Barcelona sent multiple attacks, but they were unable to take the lead at the Campus Du Paris-Saint-Germain in Poissy, France.
Barcelona were on top, but it all went wrong in the 61st minute, when their goalkeeper Max Bonfill made a pass in his own box to Xavi Miràngels, who was pressured by Vainqueur Nzinga into a mistake. Maoula Niakaté, who is just 16, pounced on the loose ball and scored to give PSG the lead.
Barcelona made changes and went into the attack to try to rescue the match. And they got an opening when Nuhu Fofana received a through ball and ran into the box before being bundled over. Turkish ref Oğuzhan Çakır deemed it a penalty. Rodríguez stepped up, sent the keeper the wrong way, and leveled the score, 1-1.
Both teams had chances to snatch the victory, but in the end, the match finished in a draw.
Barcelona now have four points after three games, while PSG have seven. The result was a good one for Barcelona, as it was away to PSG, the group leaders, who had won their first two games.
Barça play Aston Villa next in the Youth League.
