New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson revealed Friday that he has been dealing with a neurological medical condition that resulted in hospitalization.
Henderson was first listed on the injury report with an illness last Thursday, Oct. 29, and has been away from the team since.
Head coach Mike Vrabel said the team has not yet decided whether Henderson will be placed on a reserve list. For now, the focus remains on supporting the 24-year old through his recovery.
“I know that he is well
loved and respected on our football team,” Vrabel said. “I’m just trying to make sure that TreVeyon, he’s cared for and that the recovery plan is intact and he’s comfortable with it and that his wife Kenzie is cared for and understand what was going on through the process.
“Support him the best way that I know how is just to care for him, listen to him and do whatever we can to get healthy and get back and help this football team and do what he loves.”
Henderson was ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers, marking the second consecutive game he will miss due to illness.
With Henderson sidelined, the Patriots signed Lan Larison from the practice squad last week to join Rhamondre Stevenson and Corey Kiner on the active roster. Kiner has since assumed Henderson’s No. 2 role behind Stevenson.
“Corey’s worked really hard, and I think that his spark and energy going back to the Jets game has been noticeable,” Vrabel said. “Being able to run, kick off returns, provide impact there. He’s a great teammate. He’s got great energy. I love seeing him in the building each and every day. So, hopefully his role can continue to grow and be able to help us out there.”
