The Royals are encouraged by their recent power hitting binge:
The Royals have homered in 10 straight games since Aug. 10 to mark the longest active streak in the Majors. They now have seven homers through the opening three games of the Texas series and Pasquantino has homered in each game.
“Extremely encouraging,” Royals manager Matt Quatraro said of the recent homer binge. “You get three runs on one swing of the bat, it’s tremendous. Vinnie has been swinging the bat exceptionally well for a long
period of time now, but the power is an added bonus.”
Bobby Witt Jr.’s home run on Tuesday put him in rare company:
The latest no-doubt shot, which came off Texas reliever Cole Winn and landed an estimated 449 feet to dead center field, made Witt only the fourth player with at least 100 homers and 100 stolen bases through his first four big league seasons. The others are Julio Rodríguez, Darryl Strawberry and Bobby Bonds — some pretty select company.
Jonathan India discussed his old scouting report with David Laurila of FanGraphs:
“His first two years were about as expected; India got regular at-bats but didn’t have any performative breakthroughs. In his draft year, India lost bad weight and added some strength, made some offensive adjustments, and exploded, torching the best conference in the country.”
“I was just growing up, man,” the 5-foot-11, 200-pound Royal recalled. “It’s called maturing — my body was maturing. As far as [exploding in his draft year], I was just enjoying the game. Everything was going my way that year. Just in general, defense and offense, I was playing well. Adjustments… I forget, man. That was seven years ago. It was different. It was just different.”
Also at FanGraphs, Jay Jaffe evaluates the Hall of Fame trajectories of some active pitchers and catchers, including Salvador Perez:
Rightly beloved by Royals fans given that he was the MVP of the 2015 World Series and a foundational piece of the team’s back-to-back pennants, Salvador Perez has a résumé topped by nine All-Star selections and five Gold Gloves. His 48-homer 2021 season started some arguments; he holds the record for most homers in a season by a player who caught at least 50% of his games, but 15 of those homers came during his 40 games as a DH. Both that mark and the actual “record for home runs by a catcher” (42 by Javy Lopez in 2003) might soon fall into the hands of Cal Raleigh, who has 38 homers as a catcher and 47 overall this year.
ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel has released his latest Top 100 prospects list, with Carter Jensen coming in at 68. He also updated his top ten organizational rankings, with three 2025 draftees in Kansas City’s list:
What changed this season: Jac Caglianone and Noah Cameron graduated but otherwise this list is pretty similar to the preseason list, with a slight shuffle, the emergence of Chourio and some draftees added. Hammond, Gamble and Lombardi led that draft haul in July.
