Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo was asked about the speculation surrounding Julian Alvarez and a potential move to the club earlier this week and responded by praising the Argentina star
.“He’s a great player; for me, he’s one of the best strikers in the world. You can see the quality he has,” he said. He was then quizzed further on if Alvarez would be a good fit and added, “The best players belong at the best club, which is us. That’s obvious. But it’s not my job to do that or make that decision.”
Yet it seems those comments haven’t gone down well with Atletico. Reports in Spain claim the players see Araujo’s words as a “lack of respect” towards the club and will use them as motivation tonight.
Enrique Cerezo was asked about the situation ahead of the game and told reporters: “Araujo can say whatever he wants, but I don’t think Araujo is anyone at Atlético Madrid to say anything. Araujo is a good defender, and tonight he should let them score and you’ll see how we forgive him everything!”
