Bayern Munich already has Jonas Urbig waiting in the wings to take over for legendary goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. Now the question has turned to the successor to the successor.
A new deputy would not be in line to take over for Urbig, of course. The 23-year-old is expected to have a big future for both club and country. And the Bavarians have been tipped to look to the current Germany men’s national team setup for a veteran backup transfer — not too far away, either.

Bayern are looking for a new #2 behind Jonas Urbig for next season – and Augsburg’s Finn Dahmen (28) is at the top of the list. No talks have been held with the player yet – so far, the name has only been discussed internally. Köln’s Marvin Schwäbe (31) is also on the list, but ranked lower than Dahmen. Bayern want an ‘experienced’ but not ‘too old’ backup. As for Manuel Neuer and Sven Ulreich, the clear tendency at the moment is that both will retire together [@cfbayern, @itstheicebird]
If Neuer (40) and Ulreich (38) both hang up their boots at the end of 2026/27, Bayern will need to look out for a new #3 as well. Dahmen has blossomed in his last three-and-counting seasons at Augsburg. However, a reserve role at the bigger Bavarian club would make it difficult for him to continue contending for Jürgen Klopp’s Germany squads.
