Pedro Porro is a star. A sensation after THAT World Cup campaign with Spain.
There is no club in Europe that would pass up on an opportunity to sign the full-back. However, Bayern Munich is a club that is stacked in the full-back department at present, with Konrad Laimer, Josip Stanišić, Alphonso Davies, and new signing Nathaniel Brown all part of a strong rotation.
Porro is a natural right-back, and that would put him in competition with Laimer and Stanišić. While Porro would most definitely be an upgrade
over Stanišić, Laimer’s fit on Bayern’s right flank is undisputed. If there is one right back in the world who could potentially bench even Laimer, however, it would be Tottenham Hotspur’s Pedro Porro.
Former Bayern defender Valérien Ismaël, in an interview with Sport Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), believes Porro would be an excellent fit at Bayern. “Pedro Porro has shown that he’s an outstanding defender. He would be a fantastic addition to FC Bayern,” chimed in the former Watford and Blackburn Rovers manager.
As a former player and manager, Valérien’s trained eye could pick Porro as a standout player; however, one would argue that it doesn’t take someone with such credentials to understand Porro’s quality and fit at Bayern.
Valérien continued with the praise: “Full-backs of this calibre are always hard to find. Porro is tenacious and strong in defensive duels, quick, and always capable of producing a dangerous attacking moment. He simply has the complete package. I can absolutely see him thriving in Vincent Kompany’s team – he would be a perfect fit there.” Hard to disagree with any of that.
Now it all comes down to Bayern’s front office, the amount the club is willing to spend, and whether the club is able to manage the squad and lose more deadweight.
