A big part of the Patriots offense is going to miss (at least) the first quarter of the season, with the team placing A.J. Brown on IR after the WR suffered a high-ankle sprain in the NFL season opener. The former Eagles receiver will automatically miss games against the Steelers, Jaguars, Bills, and Raiders.
Brown went down against the Seahawks on Wednesday, and while he was able to limp to the sideline and then to the locker room, he was seen post-game with a boot on his foot. An MRI on Thursday
confirmed a high-ankle sprain, and initial thoughts were that he could miss 3-6 weeks.
Before leaving the game, the WR had three catches for 26 total yards, and missed getting into the endzone thanks to an underthrown pass by Drake Maye.
BGN’s Brandon Lee Gowton explainedwhy Brown’s injury and missed time was of interest to the Eagles and their future draft plans.
“His missed time is of interest to the Eagles not only because he used to play for the team … but because, via the Brown trade, Philly owns the most favorable of two 2027 fifth-round picks from either the Pats or the Chicago Bears.
If Brown has to miss time and the Patriots struggle further, the Eagles could benefit in the form of improved draft pick compensation.“
With Brown out at least through Week 5, the Patriots will have to figure out a way to turn things around for their offense with WR1. They just traded away Kayshon Boutte, but maybe Mack Hollins is the answer — or maybe the Eagles will have a better draft pick next year.
