It’s the topic of the day around the Phillies universe, considering we know how well the plan currently has been going. Alan Rangel currently is the fifth starter for the Phillies and has not performed well. His having to have been in the rotation was a result of Andrew Painter struggling so much this season in the major leagues and now the team is in a bind.
Can they survive a summer playoff push with their current pitching plan in place for the fifth starter’s job?
It’s starting to look more and
more like Aaron Nola can give them serviceable starts out of the four spot. He’s been pretty good his last three starts, albeit against some anemic offenses. Still, it’s better than what he has given them, which felt like an automatic loss each time he toed the rubber. Maybe the team feels they are fine with whatever Rangel can give them until Painter is (maybe?) able to fix himself in Lehigh Valley? Maybe they have a deal lined up to get another LAIM for the backend of the rotation.
