The Dolphins have informed Tua Tagovailoa that he will be released once the new league year officially begins this week, and word on the street is that the Falcons are highly interested in the quarterback.
According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Falcons are expected to pursue Tagovailoa.
Tagovailoa spent the first six years of his career in Miami, and completed a full season once, in 2023. He’s surpassed 4,000
passing yards in one season, also in 2023. Over his career, he’s thrown 120 touchdowns against 59 interceptions.
The Falcons do need some kind of answer at the quarterback position with Michael Penix Jr.’s health a question mark following a knee reconstruction. At present, we are too far out to have any expectations for his availability to start the season. Tagovailoa’s Dolphins tenure had some ups and some big-time downs, and I believe there will always be lingering concerns about his health because of his concussion history. But the hope is that he wouldn’t have to be the long-term starter.
Still, the Dolphins are kind of a mess! And sometimes a player just needs a fresh start to unlock their potential. So let’s hope that’s the outcome assuming Tagovailoa does become an Atlanta Falcons.
What should the Falcons do at the quarterback position? Do you love or hate the idea of signing Tagovailoa? Sound off in the comments!
