L.A. Rams’ star Myles Garrett is now expected to miss “roughly six weeks” following arthroscopic knee surgery, up from the four weeks the team initially hoped for when it announced his surgery
. The Rams were understandably optimistic when Garrett first decided to have surgery, setting a return date of Week 6 against the Arizona Cardinals, but this new report pushes the return date back a couple of weeks.Garrett underwent the procedure after their Week 1 game against the 49ers, and an additional
two weeks off would have Garrett missing games against the Raiders and Chargers. Then in Week 9, the Rams play the Washington Commanders.
Per Ian Rapoport:
“Garrett, the subject of one of the NFL’s biggest blockbuster trades in recent memory, was given a timeline of roughly six weeks for his recovery from knee surgery, sources told NFL Network.”
Garrett is determined to beat the timeline, sources told NFL Network, but the Rams will be cautious with a player they traded significant capital to acquire. The hope was the arthroscopic surgery to clean out his knee relieves discomfort and eliminates swelling.”
The news of Garrett’s injury in general feels like a significant blow to Les Snead’s offseason plan to reinforce the defense with star upgrades like him and Trent McDuffie.
The Rams traded two-time Pro Bowler Jared Verse and three draft picks, including a 2027 first-round pick, to the Cleveland Browns to acquire Garrett earlier this year. The early returns on the first-round pick traded for McDuffie look good, then Aaron Donald came back too, but the centerpiece to the defensive rebuild was the investment in Garrett coming off of a Defensive Player of the Year season and 23 sacks. His first game with the Rams didn’t yield a single tackle, and now he’s potentially out closer to two months than one month.
Will the Rams come to regret the Garrett trade? For their sake, let’s hope not.
