After two weeks away, Jose Ramirez has reclaimed a locker at Gillette Stadium.
The New England Patriots officially re-signed the outside linebacker to the practice squad on Monday and released offensive lineman Jacob Rizy to make room among the 17-man group.
ESPN’s Mike Reiss and Patriots on SI’s Ethan Hurwitz were first to report the moves heading out of the mini bye.
Ramirez, 27, originally landed in head coach Mike Vrabel’s fold after being waived by the Philadelphia Eagles at the NFL’s 53-man roster
deadline in August. The 6-foot-2, 252-pound preseason visitor to Foxborough earned a promotion in late September. He checked into two games while on the active roster and recorded one tackle across 30 snaps between defense and special teams. Upon clearing waivers, a return to the practice squad followed in October. So did the edge rusher’s release ahead of what became a 26-19 AFC East win over the New York Jets.
Selected in the sixth round of the 2023 draft class at No. 196 overall, Ramirez appeared in four games and notched one quarterback hit while a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The former MAC Defensive Player of the Year by way of Arizona, Riverside City College and Eastern Michigan went on to spend part of 2025 with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and recorded four tackles to go with one sack in three games. He circled back from the CFL to the NFL on a futures contract in January.
Rizy, 24, had been brought back on New England’s practice squad after injuries depleted the interior line ahead of last week’s 30-24 loss to the Chicago Bears. The 6-foot-5, 306-pound rookie first joined the scout team at its formation and was released midway through September.
Signed by the Patriots as part of the organization’s undrafted class of 2026, Rizy played 155 offensive snaps at center through three preseason games before being waived leading up to the NFL’s cutdown deadline. A former second-team and first-team All-Ivy League selection, Rizy spent three years at Harvard and two years at Florida State. He made 27 starts over that span while logging work at center, left guard, right guard and right tackle.
A spot remains open on the 53-man roster as a divisional matchup nears.
The Miami Dolphins host next Sunday’s 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff at Hard Rock Stadium.
