Bayern Munich’s Luis Díaz will not join Colombia for the upcoming international matches, and Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl believes the break could be exactly what the winger needs. Colombia will play Mexico, Paraguay and Peru during the September and October international window, but Díaz was left out of the squad. The Colombian federation confirmed the upcoming friendlies as part of the national team’s preparations for the next cycle. Eberl appears pleased that Díaz will instead have

Max Eberl on Luis Díaz skipping the upcoming international matches with Colombia: “These aren’t really must-play games in South America after the World Cup, and that’s something that does the players good from time to time. Lucho has played many, many games now, including the World Cup and our last season. So, accordingly, it’s good. I think he’ll take a bit of a holiday first, and then he’ll gradually get back into things. He’ll have his own training program, so nobody needs to worry about him not being fit.”
The Bayern executive also explained that the club is not simply giving Díaz time off and hoping for the best. The 29-year-old will have an individual plan designed to gradually bring him back into training.
Díaz has had a difficult start in front of goal this season, scoring once in Bayern’s opening four league matches before the 7-0 Union Berlin victory. He has also played a significant amount of football since joining Bayern, including 51 appearances during his first season at the club and five matches for Colombia at the 2026 World Cup.
Colombia coach Néstor Lorenzo previously explained that he spoke with Díaz and felt the winger looked tired, leading to the decision to give him a break.
For Bayern, the priority now appears straightforward: let Díaz recharge, keep him fit with a tailored program and hope the extended break helps him rediscover his best form when club football resumes.
