Could Harry Kane eventually leave Bayern Munich for FC Barcelona? It is certainly a scenario that has been floated, particularly as the English striker continues to establish himself as one of the best players in Europe.
Former United States goalkeeper Kasey Keller is not convinced that move will happen.
Keller knows what it is like to leave England and experience football in a different country. He played in the Bundesliga with Borussia Mönchengladbach and also spent time in Spain with Rayo Vallecano,
among other clubs. He also represented the United States at four World Cups and earned 102 international caps.
That experience gives Keller a different perspective on the appeal of testing yourself in another league, but he also believes Bayern Munich is a difficult club for Kane to simply walk away from.
“No [I don’t see Kane signing for Barcelona]. I mean, I get it, but after Lewandowski, I don’t know if Bayern are going to let another player do that. I was obviously a guy who enjoyed the experience, going to a new league, winning over new fans, press and team-mates. So I would never say to anybody. If that’s what your dream is, then go and do it. I don’t see him honestly coming back to England, I could see that [Barcelona], but Bayern is a pretty special place,” Keller told Casinostugan.
The Robert Lewandowski comparison is particularly interesting. The Polish striker left Bayern Munich for Barcelona in 2022 after becoming one of the greatest goalscorers in the club’s history, and Keller clearly wonders whether Bayern Munich would be eager to repeat that experience with another superstar striker.
For Kane, Barcelona could represent another opportunity to experience a different league and challenge. But as Keller points out, Bayern Munich is not exactly an easy place to leave behind.
After finally finding a club where he has the opportunity to compete for major trophies on a regular basis, Kane may have plenty of reasons to remain in Munich.
