I know the question that’s on top of every Tottenham Hotspur fan’s mind at this very minute is not “what happened to the transfers of Manor Solomon and Bryan Gil” but rather “What kit is Randal Kolo Muani going to wear at Spurs”. Well gentle readers I do not yet know the answer to the first question, but I can answer the second one — Tottenham’s newest attacker will wear kit #39. Why? IDK, reasons!
You can look at Kolo Muani’s kit number history and
the number 39 is nowhere to be found on it — this is a brand new shirt number for him. He wore #20 at Juventus, #23 and #10 at PSG, and a host of other numbers if you look back at his career at Nantes.
So 39 doesn’t really appear to have any significance, but his options were somewhat slim. #2 was open at Tottenham, but that’s not really an attacker’s number. There’s #12, 16, and 18 all of which are vacant and which apparently didn’t interest Randal. #26 is also free but hasn’t been used since Ledley King hung up his knee brace, and at this point I’m just going to assume it’s been “unofficially retired.”
So 39? Well, why not! That number has been worn by such Spurs luminaries as Japhet Tanganga, Shayon Harrison, current Bournemouth captain Adam Smith, Cristian Ceballos, Danny Rose, and Jonathan Woodgate — a real who’s who of Tottenham Guys Guys can Remember.
Maybe some enterprising journalist can ask Randal why he chose it, or maybe it’s the first open number he vibed with. Who knows! But it’s his now, and hopefully he can make it his own.
