Late yesterday afternoon (Jan. 20), some television numbers for TNA Impact Wrestling’s Jan. 15 live episode went around. The ratings and viewership information for the show were eagerly anticipated by wrestling fans anxious to see the long-running promotion would do on a much more prominent channel than their previous one — AXS TV, which like TNA is owned by Canadian media conglomerate Anthem — and with it partnership with WWE in full swing.
The initial reporting included a sub-100K total audience
number, but it turned out to be a misreading of the partial charts Programming Insider is posting these days*. PWTorch came through with viewership date everyone would finally agree on… 173,000 viewers and a .04 rating in the 18-49 demographic.
What everyone seems to agree on is that the audience number is a substantial improvement over the last numbers we have for Impact on AXS, which were around 100K. Impact did have fewer viewers on Jan. 15 than AMC’s recent primetime average of 214K, however.
The demo number is in line with AXS’ average though, and an improvement on the .01-.03 Impact was reportedly doing on AXS. It’s better than the most recent AEW Collision Wrestlenomics has numbers for; Jan. 10’s episode did a .03 rating. That show had almost 100K more total viewers however, coming in at 271K.
Last Thursday’s show featured AJ Styles, a World title main event, and surprise debuts from former WWE talents. TNA will be back live on AMC this Thursday. How do you think the show will do? Are the first ratings for Impact on AMC cause for excitement or disappointment?
