Since April of 2024 Calvin Throckmorton has been bumped back and forth between the practice squad and active roster, but during his tenure as a Bronco he’s consistently proven himself worthy of being kept around. He has real NFL experience that many players in his position (58 games played with 27 starts) and brings a large stature to the interior offensive line. And it helps that he can play both offensive guard and center.
He first started in New Orleans after going undrafted and would start in 14
games in 2021 when two starters went down. But then in 2022 he only started in six games. After that he was cut by the Saints, signed to the Panthers and then cut by them and signed to the Titans in 2023. In 2024 he would sign with the Broncos after being cut once more. And in Denver he has been promoted to the active roster or cut and signed to the practice squad five times.
Throckmorton spent 10 games on the active roster last season where he served as a special teamer and back up to Alex Forsyth while Luke Wattenberg was injured. But his best moments came in the preseason where he saw the most action, particularly against the Arizona Cardinals in his only start of the those three games. He looked every bit of the seasoned veteran that he is becoming.

2026 outlook with the Broncos
Throckmorton will once again be heading into training camp fighting for a spot as a backup interior offensive lineman, but this year his chances are higher than the previous two. He’s continued to prove himself capable when given the opportunity and he should have, and I think the coaching staff will increase the number of chances he gets this year. There’s a likely chance he becomes more of a main stay on the active roster than he has been with the Broncos.
But there is going to be tons of competition for that sixth lineman that Payton loves to use in his offense. Besides Frank Crum taking plenty of those reps last year, there’s also Alex Palczewski that’s become even more of an emerging talent and Denver drafted Kage Casey this year who might just end up replacing Ben Powers when his contract is up in a season.
This will be an entertaining training camp and preseason this year when it comes to the offensive line competitions. While the starting five is all but locked down, there is a bunch of positions and depth up for grabs, which is an incredibly good problem to have.
Final word
Calvin Throckmorton should be attempting to take over a role as the extra blocker, but that seems like it may be unlikely. However, securing an active roster spot seems more probable this year than it did the last.
