It has been hard to follow the news the last few days, it’s been moving so fast. Of course, I’m ONLY talking about the Colorado Buffaloes’ transfer portal news and no other events. Besides, with this much talent coming into the program, is there really anything else worth looking at?
The Buffs and Coach Prime have really changed their transfer portal strategy in 2026. Talent still wins out, but it seems to me like the changes in the front office have led to CU prioritizing production heavily over
potential. One of the most well-known examples of this production is Santana Hopper.
Hopper has been to two schools – App State and Tulane – before he joined the Buffs. Both programs have a long history of development and talent, which means his pedigree is top notch. As Tulane completed their playoff run, Hopper starting heating up. Against UNT, for the conference championship, he posted 4 tackles, including 2 sacks.
As an undersized DT, Hopper succeeds by gaining leverage and using his explosiveness to beat people off the ball. As opposed to a plug, like Chidozie Nwankwo, he is a machete, cutting through the lines.
Welcome, Santana!
