Santiago Luna knows how to make a first impression with a stunning knockout win in his octagon debut at Noche UFC.
The victory didn’t come easy after Luna got rocked badly by opponent Quang Le during an early exchange but he weathered the storm and eventually got his revenge. Luna uncorked a nasty left hook that put Le down and from there he never let up on the pressure.
Luna continued blasting away with punches until Le crumbled to the canvas with the referee rushing in to stop the fight with the end
coming at 2:48 in the opening round.
“I told them in our interview that I was going to knock him out and finish him in the first round,” Luna said about his win. “That’s what Mexicans do, a war. I know the power that I have in my hands. That was a shot that we were practicing in the backroom. [I told my coaches] I’m going to knock him out with that punch.”
Before he got the knockout, Luna faced some early adversity with Le cracking him with a shot that sent him backwards and it appeared he might be in serious trouble. Le kept looking for the followup punches to potentially deliver a finish of his own but Luna did a good job avoiding too much more damage as he recovered.
A moment later, Luna unleashed the left hook that dropped Le and the momentum in the fight shifted rather dramatically. With Le stunned, Luna just poured on the punishment until he connected with another shot that put his opponent down and out for the final time.
It was an impressive debut for Luna, especially considering he had to walk through some fire before scoring the emphatic knockout victory. He kicks off his UFC career with a huge win and now sits 1-0 with the promotion while Le falls to 1-3 in his four appearances in the octagon.
