Barcelona defender Eric Garcia has withdrawn from the Spain squad and will return to his club after sustaining a knee injury on international duty.
Garcia was named in the starting XI for Saturday’s 3-1 win over England at Wembley but felt discomfort in the warm-up and was replaced minutes before kick off.
The Barcelona star has now undergone tests on the injury and will play no further part in Spain’s fixtures.
Here’s the official statement:
“Atlético de Madrid player Robin Le Normand is replacing Eric
Garcia in the Spanish national team squad, which is currently competing in the UEFA Nations League group stage.
“The FC Barcelona center-back reported discomfort in his left knee; following medical tests, the decision was made to release him from the squad ahead of upcoming international fixtures, thereby avoiding any risk and safeguarding the player’s health.”
There’s no indication yet of how serious the injury is but Barca will be hoping Garcia will be available to play once the international break is over.
Barcelona’s next game is against Getafe in La Liga on October 10th.
