The Hall of Fame ballot was announced today with several new candidates added to the list of players that voters can place a checkmark next to this winter.
There are a few Phillies holdovers still here, including Bobby Abreu, Hunter Pence, Chase Utley and Jimmy Rollins. The cases for them will be debated for another year. The new addition
with the Phillies connection is Cole Hamels, the team’s ace during the run to the 2008 World Series that ended up being a part of the vaunted super rotation of the 2010’s. The case for Hamels isn’t as strong as maybe it should be, even if there was some good times mixed in. His case is more in the “he was good and durable for a long time” as opposed to a strong peak like other have had.
The results for the voting will be announced, as noted above, on January 20th.
