Fermín López is a fan favorite at Barcelona for a reason. He is a no nonsense player.
Against Olympiacos, he put on a masterclass of how to score goals. It doesn’t require fancy moves, it requires hunger
and killer instinct.
Fermín seems to always know where the ball is going to drop inside of box, and when the opportunity arrives, he is the first to react. He makes scoring goals look simple.
He wears the desire on his face. This is a guy who has earned every chance that’s been given to him, and he plays every game like it could be his last. That’s the type of character you want around your team if you’re Hansi Flick.

Dani Olmo is on notice. Fermín is back, and he has cemented a place in Barcelona’s starting lineup for the foreseeable future. The two of them will have quite a battle ahead for playing time when Olmo returns, but you’d be hard pressed to not place your money on Fermín given his efficient productivity.
It was also nice to see how well he combined with Marcus Rashford. The two of them brought out the best in one another, setting up opportunities, while also seeming to play a game of anything you can do I can do better.
If you’re Barcelona, you need less thinking, and more action from your players. That’s what Fermín embodies.
Right foot or left foot, with the head or on the ground, it doesn’t matter. However it comes, the young sharpshooter is just grateful for the opportunity to score another goal.

Barcelona were given a big gift in this game for the soft second yellow card that brought Olympiacos down to ten men. The score line, admittedly, was misleading.
But Fermín singlehandedly had Barcelona up 2-0 at halftime. In fact, he was an inch away from making it three after a sensational effort with his head. He set the tempo for this win from the beginning.
The timing of this performance was excellent with Real Madrid waiting in the wings. Hansi Flick needs to have players he can turn to while Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski, Dani Olmo, and Ferran Torres are still out.
Specifically, he needs players who can score goals.
Fermín and Marcus Rashford are raring to go.

That’s good for the short term while the team is short on offensive options, and even better for the long journey ahead. Barcelona need to find their attacking formula.
Fermín looks determined to stake his place in the starting eleven.
Here’s to hoping he gets a consistent run of games to show he can be more than just a member of the supporting cast. Fermín has what it takes to be a difference maker.
