Newcastle United has moved decisively to protect Lewis Hall’s future after refusing to entertain Manchester United’s interest in the left-back throughout the summer transfer window.
The Daily Mail’s Craig Hope has now revealed a significant detail about Hall’s new contract: the improved five-year agreement will not contain a release clause, leaving Newcastle firmly in control should Manchester United return for the 22-year-old next summer.

Hope reported.
Hall was Manchester United’s top left-back target during the summer, according to multiple reports. According to Hope, Newcastle CEO David Hopkinson informed his Old Trafford counterpart, Omar Berrada, that the England international was not for sale, and Manchester United subsequently decided against testing that stance with an offer.
Contract negotiations then accelerated last week, and Newcastle has reached an agreement with Hall over improved terms and a two-year extension.
The absence of a release clause in Hall’s deal is particularly important given Manchester United’s continued interest and their likely bidding for the left-back at some point in the future, most probably next summer. While the interest is surely expected to resurface, there will be no predetermined financial figure allowing the player to leave Newcastle without negotiations.
Instead, the extension strengthens Newcastle’s position and protects Hall’s transfer value while also rewarding his development since arriving from Chelsea for £35 million in 2023.
Hall has since made 102 appearances for Newcastle and scored three goals, establishing himself as an important part of Matthias Jaissle’s squad. His progress has also been recognized internationally, as Hall already has four England caps. Hope also reported that Hall is set to be included when Thomas Tuchel names his first England squad of the season on Friday ahead of four Nations League matches.
