Talk about deja vu.
Indiana men’s basketball’s Sam Alexis, who was set to rejoin the Hoosiers’ roster for the 2026-27 season following an injunction in Tennessee, is now ineligibile after the Tennessee Court of Appeals stayed said injunction on Wednesday afternoon, per Sam C. Erlich of Boise State University.
Alexis was one of several players to be ruled eligible under the initial ruling and promptly announced his intention to return to Bloomington. He averaged 8.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists
while shooting 68.7% from the field in 21.3 minutes per game for Indiana during the 2025-26 season.
His return gave the Hoosiers some tremendously helpful flexibility and proven experience at center. Indiana is set to start former SMU transfer Samet Yigitoglu there and former Alabama transfer Aiden Sherell at power forward, with little proven depth behind the former.
Like Indiana football’s Stephen Daley and Kellan Wyatt, Alexis is ineligible barring another court ruling in his favor, including that of the Court of Appeals. The NCAA has won stays in the Colorado case (that of Daley and Wyatt) and separate cases in Ohio and New Jersey.
Indiana added German center Clemens Sokolov this past offseason as well, but he joins the roster as a true freshman after spending time in the Pro B South league for Würzburg Baskets Akademie.
