Darren Till had a great night in Manchester as he knocked Luke Rockhold out cold in brutal fashion to win the Misfits Boxing bridgerweight title. But the KO win may have been a little too impressive, because now Till is worried he’ll struggle to find another opponent.
During the X Series 22 post-fight press conference, “The Gorilla” discussed what might be next for him … and he clearly had no idea. The obvious answer would be British boxing legend Carl Froch, but “The Cobra” left the arena rather
than face off with Till after his win.
“I just don’t think I’m going to get a fight from the Influencer scene,” Till said. “And Carl was scurrying out of there. Where did he go? Is he here, mate? Come on. You wanna fight? You wanna do your little YouTube thing, get 10k subscribers and giving it back? You’ll beat me, this, that, but when you see me you sat there just yawning. Get in the ring and face me. Face me like a man.”
There’s always accused rapist and human trafficker Andrew Tate, who has been talking up a potential return to fighting. But that’s all Till believes that is: talking.
“I’d fight Andrew Tate but I just don’t think I’m going to get that fight right now,” he said. “I don’t think Andrew Tate’s going to take the fight. I don’t see many taking the fight at this point. I don’t know what I’m going to do. I hope [Misfits] has some plans, I’m sitting here as a free agent now. I need the money, I’m a free agent.”
“I don’t think I’m getting a Jake Paul fight,” he said when asked. “I’m being a realist. Jake Paul’s not taking the fight. I’m not gonna sit and beg for a fight I’m not gonna get. A bigger star on a bigger trajectory, why am I going to sit here and waste my breath and my time. He’s not taking it right now. So I just won’t call for it.”
“Andrew Tate won’t take it. Mike Perry, Jorge Masvidal, none of them want to take it … No one wants to fight.”
Till’s best chance for a mega-payday are against Froch, who retired in 2014 on a five fight winning streak as the WBA and IBF super-middleweight champion. He weighed in at 167 pounds for those fights, while Till (formerly a 170 pounder in UFC) weighed in at 192 for his fight last night.
“Carl Froch is one of the best British boxers we’ve had in boxing,” Till said. “If you look back at his accolades, I have to be a realist. But he’s talking s–t and I’m talking s–t. The fight should get made. But I just feel like the more I’m talking s–t the more he’s backing off. I’m the bigger guy, and he knows I’ve got power. Okay, is he a better boxer than me? Yeah, he is. But I know with MMA things and stuff like that, I can get him out of there.”
“I called it on and all he did was sat there yawning.”
